BLOG – Gloucester City 0-1 Chester. Post Match Thoughts

Chester took all the points away from Cheltenham thanks to a goal from Nathan Jarman despite a Man of the Match performance from Gloucester’s number 1. Chester never really looked in trouble but were denied more than the one goal thanks to a string of outstanding saves from Mike Green in Gloucester’s goal. Gloucester also managed to get a bloke sent off after two pretty stupid yellow cards. Here are a few of the things that we noticed at the game.

1. Mike Green.

Ridiculously good saves from Gloucester’s keeper and a deserved MOTM. Two close range tips over the bar and solid save from a Jarmo header ensured that the only way we could beat him was by hammering it in the opposite corner from 8 yards. He apparently had a great game against Leyton Orient the other week in their FA Cup tie so we may be seeing a few interested parties from higher up the leagues for him soon. Got nowt on Danby though.

2. Domination.

At no point did I think that Gloucester were going to score. After a few awful performances this was the defensive display that we needed. OK there were a few hairy moments but nothing that wasn’t dealt with quickly and effectively. Danby didn’t have a save to make! A good clean sheet.

3. Only the one?

Another positive today was the attacking display. We did only get the one but, let’s face it, the keeper pulled out three amazing saves. If he wasn’t on the top of his game it would have been a much more comfortable scoreline and probably the one that we deserved.

4. Referee

Whilst he didn’t really get many decisions wrong he liked his whistle too much. He seemed to get a power trip from making sure the free-kick was taken from the precise blade of grass where the foul was committed. Got on my tits and really stopped the flow of the game for both sides. Has he ever heard of advantage?

5. Following.

Been a while since I’ve been to a game (damn uni) so it was bloody nice to be surrounded by so many from Chester. Loud when we needed to be and lots of funny comments from the crowd, made me miss it even more. Cheers boys, was a pleasure.
