Chester FC scored two goals inside 15 minutes and then shut up shop against easily the worst side Chester have played this year. A Charnock header after 5 minutes from a corner and a powerful left-footed shot from Hobson secured the points for the Blues who then threatened to score but shot too much from distance to trouble the scoreboard again. Here are some thoughts…
Easily the worst side I’ve seen in the Conference Prem bar Hyde. Nothing going forward and shaky at the back. It meant we didn’t even really have to get out of second gear for most of the second half which actually led to a few mistakes and sloppy play but even then Southport couldn’t take advantage. Easy win.
Thought he played really well today. Put in Hobson for his goal, generally looked lively, unlucky not to score and intercepted a lot of balls to break up play. I think the key to his performance however was the return of Mahon. Mahon, McConville and Rooney all cycled around and popped up in different positions which made us look better going forward. Difficult to say the effect on the defence as Southport were rubbish.
Bloody petrified for next match. Hopefully it will be a decent crowd and we will win. Wrexham seem to be good at getting late winners at the moment so we need to up our concentration levels for next week.
