Chester won two on the bounce for the first time since the start of the season after overcoming a poor Halifax side. Chester dominated the match for 60 minutes, scoring twice, before switching off and allowing Halifax back into the game. James Roberts got the first goal seizing on a mistake in the Halifax defence to fire past Glennon. It was a poignant moment for the young man who was playing in his first game since leaving the club on compassionate leave after the death of his younger brother. The second came after a well worked goal from Ross Hannah and Jonny Hunt who made no mistake when through on goal. Chester then switched off for ten minutes and allowed Halifax to get a foothold in the game and they managed to grab a goal back and put the Blues under pressure before the final whistle went. Here are some thoughts…
A really nice moment for him to grab a goal. The standing ovation from the Blues fans afterwards was a really nice touch as well. Well done everyone. A real shame he was forced off through injury. Looked llike a hamstring to me so I doubt we will see him for a month or so.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about this but I actually didn’t think we were too bad playing that formation. Kay was the stand out at centre back, Sharps looked a little tired and struggled for periods but overall we were decent defensively except when we got it badly wrong for their goal. Hunt and Higgins as wingbacks wasn’t too bad although Hunt can’t bring the ball out as well as Higgins and Higgins can’t cross as well as Hunt. I thought the formation meant we mostly kept possession well and when we did lose the ball we had enough people back to keep them at bay. Admittedly it wasn’t the best attack we were facing but not bad.
3. Switching off
We seem to do this in a lot of games. We played fairly well for 60 minutes (not a classic by any stretch) but after the second goal we seemed to totally stop playing, thinking the game was won. We need to be more ruthless when we get in front in games and not let teams back into them. The fact all of our games have been won by one goal just shows the problem!
