MATCH BLOG Chester FC 2 Barnet 1

Jamie Reed’s last minute winner gave Chester their second home win of the season and gave Steve Burr his first points in charge of Chester FC. A Lewis Turner fluke opened the deadlock in the first half when his cross from deep got a slight deflection and went in off the post. Chester defended well with Horan and Killock looking solid but they were unable to stop a wonderful Barnet counterattack down the left-handside which saw Hyde score a thumping header. It felt like Barnet would go on to break Chester hearts but an amazing team goal which saw Mahon, Rooney and Turner combine to put it on a plate for Reed meant Chester won their first match since November. Here are some thoughts from the match…

1. Burr-factor

As much as I think NY would have kept us up Burr’s appointment really gave the players a kick up the arse. Well done to Gary Jones for getting the players ready for today and he deserves all the credit for the win. Will be interesting to see what changes he makes but it’s certainly a good start.

2. Jamie Reed

He can’t pass, shoot, control the ball, header, hold the ball up or miss from six yards. Only joking. Jamie played well today. Was a hard working front two with Peers and one of them deserved a goal. Delighted for him and his, and the crowd’s, celebration show how frustrating this run has been for everyone.

3. Turner

My MOM. Lucky goal and put the ball on a plate for Reed to slot home. Kept their left winger quiet and looked good going forward. I can understand Killock getting the official one as he and Horan looked great at the back today and there should also be special mentions for Rooney, Miller and Linfield. Never stopped running and put some great challenges in.

4. Ref

The same bloke who refereed the Lincoln game. I was worried when he showed up. He was utterly awful last time but today he was spot on. Helped by the lack of big decisions to make but he obviously just had a mare last time.

Bring on Woking! COYB.
