It was heartbreak for Chester as a last minute equaliser cancelled out Craig Mahon’s early strike which squirmed past the keeper. In truth, this was a terrible game, which, if points were given out for the quality of display would mean both sides would be leaving without a point between them. Anyway that’s not how the league works and we have another point on the board and have only lost once in the last five. Here are some thoughts…
Lots of injuries on that front. Riley out, Hall out, Hobson pretty well out, left just McConville and Iwelumo or a youth teamer. Chester missed Hobson desperately. Iwelumo just isn’t as good, although I don’t think he deserved the sarcastic cheers he got when was substituted. He was repeatedly fouled by their centre backs and the ref just totally ignored it. If the ref wasn’t so hands off (which really affected the game for both sides) we would have had a few more balls into the box which would’ve given him more of a chance of scoring. His one header on goal was poor though. After a decent outing against Telford for Iwelumo today was a step back. That can partly be blamed on the ref but once he worked out that he wasn’t going to get anything he should’ve been stronger and fouled them back.
My MOM. In my opinion our best player (close run with Kingsley James though) and I loved his goal. Properly stupid keeper error, how did it get above him?
3. Their goal
Could see it coming. So frustrating to throw away two points like that by playing deeper and deeper. Suppose it is only natural when protecting a lead and it was made more difficult by not being able to keep the ball up front towards the end. Been a while since we conceded late on so hopefully we can come back against Aldershot on Tuesday.
Was an absolutely dire game. Very few good chances for either side and most of the play was in the air. Ref let too much go which meant there was lots of fouls which totally stopped any flow for either side. Won’t be too many games as bad as this in the season. Least there were goals.
