Chester became the first team to face Barnet at their new home ground and came away with a pretty disappointing scoreline after goals from Luke Gambin and two from Jake Hyde sent Chester into the relegation zone. Here are some of our thoughts from yesterday’s match (it would have been earlier but we were errr drinking).
We lacked it in midfield and defence. Most of the time it wasn’t a problem as we were pretty well organised and rarely out of position but after the first, slightly lucky goal, we were hit on the break. We either need more pace in the side or to sit a bit deeper against the best sides.
Importantly we had plenty. Quite a few goalmouth scrambles which didn’t make it in, Linny’s diving header and the penalty shout. Probably should’ve had one out of all those but sometimes these things don’t go your way. Still early days and I’m sure we will click soon.
3. The Hive
Quite a nice little ground. We certainly made a fair bit of noise in there and there was a good selection of beers on as well. Few teething problems – how long it took to get served and the mess with the tickets beforehand but it was good to be the first people to lose in there.
4. Away support
Absolutely brilliant yesterday. Great to see so many in the smoke really getting behind the team even when we getting battered. See you on Tuesday.
