Chester FC left it late to make Wrexham fans’ trip back to their [insert insult here] feel like an age. Terrible in the first half, Chester FC looked like a totally different side in the second and managed to score two wonderful volleys through Craig Hobson’s flick and Heneghan’s side foot to make sure the reformed Blues remain unbeaten against our neighbours. Here are some thoughts…
1.Craig Hobson and Ben Heneghan
The latest entrants into the hall of fame. Two wonderful goals, worthy of winning any game. Both players, I felt, had poor first half’s but really improved in the second. Cracking atmosphere, especially at the end when the players were being applauded. A derby to stay in the memory.
2. First half
We were awful. They scored in the first minute and then missed several, very score-able chances to keep us in it. Our defence were unable to cope with their high pressing and doing pretty passes out of defence was not working because of the work rate of their strikers. Better finishing from them would have meant it would have been over by half time, but thank Christ it wasn’t.
3. Second half
What a difference. I think this was partly down to Wrexham’s forward line tiring but we punished them for missing so many chances. The subs made a real difference, especially Touray, and we seemed to be much more confident going forward and managed to stretch the Wrexham back line more and more. Great to see us play some really good stuff against another good side. Best derby I’ve ever been to by a mile.
Alright not the biggest but what an atmosphere. Fans really getting behind the players which gave them a boost and the celebrations at the end were magnificent. An instant classic.
