MATCH BLOG – Chester FC 0 Solihull Moors 1

Chester lost their unbeaten home record thanks to a fairly woeful display and penalty in the 10th minute. This game was one to forget on a day when Chester lifted the Blue Square Bet North title in front of a pretty good crowd. Here are a few thoughts from the game.

Trophies

For all the moaning I am about to do please bear in mind I actually enjoyed the day today. I didn’t really care that we lost and I was mainly enjoying a worry free football match. It was bloody lovely to see us get the trophies and I am buzzing at the fact we are playing Conference football next season! Anyway onto the match.

Changes

We obviously saw a few players come in today to try and give us a boot up the arse to play better. It is safe to say these didn’t work. It was painfully obvious Hankin is not a right back and Sarcevic was wasted on the wing (although he was moved centrally quite quickly). Iain Howard was wasteful as was Scott Brown and even Dom Collins had some shaky moments. It was a really poor performance all round. We spent most of the first half looking for 45 yard Hollywood balls into Jarman and Gray which would put them one on one – sadly there was often plenty of other options on which were much better, therefore these high risk balls were not only cut out every time but were the wrong decision.

Marc Williams

Man of the match for me. Came on at half time and really made a difference. Was giving the defence something to worry about as he wasn’t trying to put a striker in at every opportunity and made some decent openings. Just a shame he couldn’t get a goal!

Solihull

Their game plan to press us high up the pitch and attack us early on in the game worked very well. Their number 9 won and scored the penalty and he had Hankin in his pocket the entire match. Organised side and they deserved the win today. Was nice of a few of their fans to stay behind and watch the trophy presentation as well.

Ref

Just awful.
