Chester lost their first home game back in the Conference after Danby missed a corner and Luke Graham headed in and Sam Smith scored in the immediate aftermath of Kay’s sending off for a second bookable offence. Here are some thoughts about the match…
1. Michael Kay
I thought he was playing really well. I can’t really argue with the bookings, although maybe the second was a tad harsh. He was left isolated at times by the full backs and there was a few times when he was marking two men – one of these times was the second booking. He was tidy on the ball and looked like he was making a nice partnership with Horan, shame we will miss him next match.
2. Set pieces
We did not defend these well enough. The first was a flap by Danby – he really didn’t need to come off his line. The second was a bit more understandable coming immediately after Kay’s sending off but there was more. A few free headers which went wide and people being unmarked in the area. Little bit worrying and I hope its just because we were a bit all over the place after Kay went.
We really need to put one in the back of the net. In both games we have been on top and then conceded. We have to score when we have a good patch in the game. I mean if Hereford hadn’t scored at the end of the first half who would you have said was the better side?
Lots there so well done for that. I can understand the shocked silence that met some of the second half. We aren’t used to this are we?
