Chester FC 2 Tamworth 0

Chester FC moved up to 18th in the table and four points above the drop zone with a vital win against a practically relegated Tamworth side. An own goal and Danny Carlton’s first goal for the club were the difference between two sides who were both, frankly, terrible until the deadlock was broken. After Chester went one up they took control of the game and started playing but it could have been so different if not for four great saves from Aaron Chapman. Here are a few thoughts…

1. Goals

The first one was an unbelievable ball from Rooney to Lewis Turner on the right who then tried to slot in Hobson for a tap in. Unfortunately for the defender (I couldn’t tell who it was) his attempted interception ended up going in. To be fair to the bloke he had absolutely no choice but to go for the ball which would have been on a plate for the hardworking Hobson. The second was controlled by Carlton’s arse from a knock back from a deep ball before he slotted under the keeper. Who controls it with their arse? Beautiful.

2. Chapman

Made three brilliant saves and scooped another strong shot over the bar. Had a great game and if any of those had gone in we would have lost. Got to remember that we could have easily lost this tonight so we aren’t out of the woods yet.

3. Nerves

Both sides looked awful until Chester scored. Everyone was properly nervous. I think it was epitomised by Jarrett’s performance. First half he was giving the ball away and coming second in challenges but the second half he was winning the ball, breaking up the play and generally playing well. What a difference a goal makes.

4. Hobson

He was given man of the match and certainly was one of the top performers tonight. I personally think Chapman and Rooney just edged him but Hobson was still a decent shout. He battled, held up the ball well and nearly set up a few goals. Considering he wasn’t even getting on the bench at Guisley Burr has chosen pretty well. Yes he isn’t the best technically, but we are in a battle and he battles.
